Wreck Diving: The Maldives' Hidden History

Shipwreck covered in coral
The Maldives' most famous wreck, the Victory, rests at 35 meters near Hulhulé. Sunk in 1981 after a navigational error, it has become an artificial reef hosting an astonishing diversity of life.
The Cargo Hold
Penetrating the Victory's cargo hold requires proper training and a guide who knows the current patterns. Inside, batfish school in the thousands, and octopuses have claimed the engine room as territory.
Every wreck is a time capsule. The objects divers find — ceramic plates, vintage bottles, rusted machinery — tell stories that history books omit.
